This edition of Family Friday Links is just for parents. Here's what we've been reading online this past week:

Believe with Me had a post entitled "Why I don't want to raise an obedient child". Author Lyette Reback says, "You see, without watching ourselves, we can accidentally raise a child who is just obedient and not resourceful or full of initiative.  We could raise a child who knows the rules and not the guiding principles, so they never weigh out which is the greater need." The author by no means denies the need for obedience, but not simple blind obedience to the rules. Parents this is well worth our time.

Dan Darling had a post on teens and screens. He wrote, "On the one hand, I want them to be read and equipped to leverage technology to fulfill their God-given mission in this age. On the other hand, I see technology as a kind of loaded weapon that can be used by the enemy to destroy their souls." Dan interviewed Kathy Koch about her book Screens and Teens. Parents and pastors this is worth considering.

The Wall Street Journal had a post about kids and chores. It reads, "Parents today want their kids spending time on things that can bring them success, but ironically, we’ve stopped doing one thing that’s actually been a proven predictor of success—and that’s household chores." Parents, this is another one for you.

The Verge Network had a post with tips for a successful daddy/daughter date. In it, John Murchison says, "God calls himself a Father, so the way a dad loves his daughter is a big influence on how that young woman will feel about God." Dads, take note.
