Here’s what we’ve found helpful online this past week:

At the New Growth Press blog, the CCEF team writes about “Helping Your Child with Irritation, Frustration, and Anger.” The post lists nine big truths to remember when your child and you get angry.

Anna Meade Harris of Rooted writes at The Gospel Coalition about how “It Takes a Village to Help Single Parents.” She says, “God may call you to lay down your comfort and resources for your friends, as he did for you… If you really want to minister comfort to a single parent, love their child(ren) well.”

On the same site—for the more academically minded—Peter Leithart reviews Lutheran ethicist Gilbert Meilaender’s new book, Thy Will Be Done: The Ten Commandments and the Christian Life. Meilaender unpacks the law as a series of “bonds”—marriage, family, life, possessions, speech, and ultimately our bond with God. For our readers, his exposition of the marriage and family bonds seems especially important. Here’s a quote: “The gospel addresses and heals the broken family bond. It teaches us to receive children as Jesus did and proclaims the good news of our adoption into the Father’s family.” Be sure to check out both Leithart’s review and Meilaender’s book.

Speaking of our Lutheran friends, here’s a throwback link. About a year ago, Chad Bird posted an article on 1517.org entitled “‘Train up’ or ‘Dedicate’? The Hebrew Gem in Proverbs 22:6.” Bird writes, “As important as the training of your children is, much more important is handing them over to God—from the very beginning, from infancy, and beyond.” Bird’s interpretation of the famous Proverb is excellent. And though I can’t follow him all the way to infant baptism, child dedication is certainly something a Baptist can get behind!
