Devotional
Human beings are sinful. From the moment Adam and Eve sinned we became enemies with God. Because of sin, people aren't friends with God anymore. Because of sin, people and the rest of creation experience death. Because of sin, people fight with each other and say hurtful things to one another. Because of sin, people don't like each other because of how they look or what color their sin is.
But We are not hopeless in our sinful condition! God loves people too much to let the story end with our sin. He could have left us in our sinful state, but God sent a Savior to rescue the world from sin and death. God himself came to us. Jesus stepped out of heaven and came to earth! This is marvelous news! We don’t have to find Jesus, because Jesus came to us. When Jesus came to earth, he lived a sinless life. Because he lived without sin, John the Baptist called him the "Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world." Jesus died as our substitute, as our atoning sacrifice for sin, so that we can have friendship with God. Because of Jesus death and resurrection, the whole world—including every person of every color—can experience forgiveness and healing. Because Jesus is alive, people can be friends with God forever!
Think about it!
Use some questions to review the story with your family.
These questions are built just for STUDENTS.
What does the good news that Jesus stepped out of heaven and came to save us tell us about God’s character?
What is significant about John the Baptist describing Jesus as the “lamb”?
What is our only hope for friendship with God? How can we be granted this friendship?
What do you think it means to "belong to Christ" as mentioned in 1 Corinthians 15:23? How do people who belong to Christ treat people of different skin colors and backgrounds?
Remember It!
Take a few minutes to review our catechism question, memory passage. You can sing the memory passage song and dance along to the second worship song about new life in Jesus.
Memory Passage:"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him will not perish but have eternal life." John 3:16
»Porque tanto amó Dios al mundo que dio a su Hijo unigénito, para que todo el que cree en él no se pierda, sino que tenga vida eterna. Juan 3:16 (NVI)
Big Picture/Catechism Question:
