Here’s what we’ve been reading online this week:
INCM had a post about the importance of parental leadership. It reads, “If we continue to come alongside these parents, encouraging, equipping, and resourcing them, and gently reminding them of their responsibility, they will become spiritual leaders for their kids.” This is just another voice in the choir singing for parents to be the primary spiritual influences in their kids’ lives. The question we need to be asking parents is, how are you using that influence? The question we need to be asking church leadership is, how are equipping parents to fulfill their God given role?
Dale Hudson over at the Building Children’s Ministries blog had a post about teaching kids. This is full of practical tips and an example video of how to successfully teach kids. This would be great for new children’s ministry teachers and helpers, and it would also be good to incorporate into children’s ministry training sessions.
Our friend, Marty Machowski was over on the ERLC site writing on the topic of teaching kids to pray the Psalms. He says, “The Psalms provide Spirit-inspired examples of petition, confession, declaration, and lament for our kids and us to learn and follow.” Our kids need to learn to pray not just a meal time and bed time, but all the time; and about a lot of different things. This is a good primer for parents as well as pastors.
