In the parable of the ten minas, Jesus tells his disciples what they should expect when the kingdom comes. At this point, many of Jesus’s followers believed he would bring an earthly kingdom immediately. So, Jesus told a parable about a noble man who was traveling far away in order to receive the authority to be king. When he left, he entrusted each of his servants with ten minas—about three years salary. That's a lot of money! When the man returned as king, he called his servants to him and asked them give account of what they had done with the money he had given them. The first two servants were faithful with what their master had given them, so he rewarded them for their faithfulness. However, the third servant had hidden away his master’s money out of fear and had done nothing. This angered the master and he took away what he had given to the servant. Jesus used this story to communicate several important truths to his disciples: First, Jesus was going away, but he would return in the future as the king. Second, when Jesus left his disciples, he was leaving them responsibility to share the gospel with others. Finally, Jesus expects his followers to be faithful with what he has given them; Jesus will reward us when we are faithful, but there will be consequences if we are unfaithful.

Read Luke 19:12–13 and Ask: Have you ever been put in charge of something while your parent or guardian left you alone? How did you handle that responsibility?
Read Luke 19:16–19 and Ask: What motivates you to be faithful to Jesus? Explain your answer. Does your life reflect that motivation?
Read Luke 19:17 and Ask: What has God given you, and how can you be faithful to use it during this time in your life?
Read Luke 19:27 and Ask: What is the consequence for those that reject Jesus as their King? Is this punishment just? Why or why not?

Cut ten circle shapes out of yellow construction paper. Talk with your child about blessings or talents that God has given them. Come up with a list of ten and write them on the ten coins.
Now, use the ten coins to act out the story. How would God want you to use each of your ten talents to serve his kingdom?
At the end of your devotional, take time to pray. Pray for those who are severely affected by the virus, for our government leaders as they make decisions about our city, state, and country, and for peace for our church family during these trying times.
