S2:E6 - Why Does God Tell Us, "You Shall Not Steal"?

Welcome back Press Pause! This week we keep the “you shall not” exhortations coming as we look at the eighth commandment. Here’s our question and answer for this week’s episode.

Q: Why does God tell us, “You shall not steal”?

A: So we will not take what belongs to others but instead desire to give.

We see several commands against stealing in God’s law. Leviticus 19:11 says, ““You shall not steal; you shall not deal falsely; you shall not lie to one another” Verse 13 continues with, “You shall not oppress your neighbor or rob him. The wages of a hired worker shall not remain with you all night until the morning.”

The bible shows there are different ways we can steal from one another. Stealing in all its forms is a reflection of the hate we have towards our neighbor and how we’re not happy with what God has given us. Instead we need to reflect God’s love and his generosity. Grab your Bible, and read Ephesians 4:28 together before listening to this week’s episode.
