Here’s what we’ve been reading online over the past couple weeks:
Fierce Marriage had post to their podcast (and transcript) on reasons why getting away is good for your marriage. Not only are their 7 reasons to get away, there are 10 tips for affordable travel. If you’re married, you would serve your marriage well by thinking through this topic.
Christina Embree had a post on topic of “developmentally appropriate” church. She writes, “… ultimately, as social creatures, humans learn best from one another regardless of age,” and, “The truth is that worship services where all generations interact and connect can be developmentally appropriate if we are willing to broaden our understanding and find ways to build on the developmental stages we all find ourselves in. We have to become hospitable.” This is a helpful post to think through as we approach the topic of kids in service vs. kids in children’s ministry classes; as well as parents being the primary spiritual influence of their kids.
Children’s Ministry Magazine had a post on rewards and children’s ministry. While it may seem harmless to reward kids, this post reads in part, “Rewards are almost an admission that church activities are something to endure rather than celebrate.” Rewards end up making church a work, absent of a motivation to grow in relationship with our Creator and Savior; instead of an act of worship.
