S2:E8 - Why Does God Tell Us, "You Shall Not Covet"?

Welcome back Press Pause! We’ve got another double question episode this week. Two for the price of one is always a great deal, especially when it’s free! Keep reading, and we’ll see how they connect together. Here are our questions and answers for this week’s episode.

Q: Why does God tell us, “You shall not covet”?

A: So we will be content with what we have.

Q: Why does God tell us, “You shall not commit adultery”?

A: So we will live pure and faithful lives, abstaining from sexual immorality, whether we are married or single.

Exodus 20:17 says, “You shall not covet your neighbor’s house. You shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, or his male or female servant, his ox or donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbor.”

These commands show us that God cares not just about what we do but about what’s in our hearts. In Matthew 5:28, Jesus takes the command against adultery even deeper, saying, “But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart.” God is calling us to live with pure hearts, not just pure actions. Grab your Bible, and read James 1:14-15 together before listening to this week’s episode.
